NLD “Ik groeide op in the Bronx. Mijn tatoeages helpen me trouwens in de ring. Mijn tegenstander ziet mij en denkt: fuck! Voorlopig werk ik nog in de bouw. Vroeg opstaan, lange dagen, hard werken.
ENG “I grew up in the Bronx. It wasn’t always easy. Maybe that’s where my love of tattoos comes from. The pain you’re willing to take for them. My body is covered in tattoos. The one on my head took seven hours. Once it starts hurting, I don’t think about anything. It quiets my mind. It calms me down. Soon I’m stepping into the ring for my first professional bare-knuckle fight. Fighting hurts too. You walk in with a strategy, but once it starts, you just react. Duck. Hit. Move. Instinct. It becomes almost meditative. That’s why people like me don’t go to therapy. Besides all the drama, all the shit. We deal with it our own way. My tattoos actually help in the ring, too. My opponent looks at me and thinks: Fuck! I work in construction. Up early. Long days. Hard work. But I want to become a full-time fighter. Life is a battle. So I might as well get good at it.”
